Create a Resource Quota
Set limits on the total CPU, memory, and object counts that can be used within a namespace.
Prerequisites
- Cluster administrator or namespace management permissions are required.
- The target namespace must exist.
Step 1. Open the Create Resource Quota form
Select Policy → Resource quotas from the left sidebar. Click the Create resource quota button in the top right.
Step 2. Enter basic information
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Resource Quota name | dev-team-quota |
| Namespace | Target namespace | dev |
Step 3. Configure resource limits
Click Add Resource to add limits.
Compute resource limits
| Resource | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
requests.cpu | Sum of all CPU requests in the namespace | 4 (cores) |
limits.cpu | Sum of all CPU limits in the namespace | 8 |
requests.memory | Sum of all memory requests | 8Gi |
limits.memory | Sum of all memory limits | 16Gi |
Object count limits
| Resource | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
pods | Maximum number of Pods | 20 |
services | Maximum number of Services | 10 |
persistentvolumeclaims | Maximum number of PVCs | 10 |
secrets | Maximum number of Secrets | 20 |
configmaps | Maximum number of ConfigMaps | 20 |
TIP
When a Resource Quota is applied, all Pods in that namespace must explicitly declare requests.cpu and requests.memory. Use a Limit Range to automatically apply defaults.
Step 4. Confirm creation
Click Create. In the Resource quotas list, the Used/Hard column shows current usage versus the configured limit.
