Instance Quick Start
If you are new to instances, follow this guide to create your first instance and connect to it.
Prerequisites
- An available network is required — see Networks
- An SSH key pair must be registered — see Key Pairs
- A security group with an SSH allow rule is required — see Security Groups
Create an Instance
Step 1 — Go to Instances
Click Instances in the left sidebar of the Compute app.
Step 2 — Start creating an Instance
Click the Create Instance button in the top-right corner to open the creation wizard. The wizard proceeds in the order Resource type → Basic information → Source → Flavor → Network → Authentication → Advanced configuration. Fill in each step and click Next to move on.
Step 3 — Select a resource type
Select Virtual Machine or Bare Metal (physical server). For a VM you can also select an instance template; if you do, the later steps are filled in automatically.
Step 4 — Enter basic information
Enter an Instance name and select an availability zone.
Step 5 — Select a source
Select Image as the boot source, then choose the OS Image you want to use (e.g., Ubuntu 22.04).
Step 6 — Select a Flavor
Choose a Flavor with the vCPU and RAM combination suited to your workload.
Step 7 — Select a network
Check the network to connect, confirm the Virtual LAN (subnet) that appears below it, and select a security group. (For Bare Metal, select only the network and Virtual LAN.)
Step 8 — Configure authentication
Select Key Pair as the authentication method. If no key pair is registered, you can create one in this step.
Advanced configuration (tags, server group, user data) is filled in automatically, so click Edit only when you need to change it.
Step 9 — Review the summary and create
In the Summary panel on the right, check the completion status of each step and the quota usage, then click the Create button. The Instance starts in a Building state and typically becomes Active within 1–2 minutes.
For detailed options at each step, see Create an Instance.
Connect to the Instance
Once the instance is Active, you can connect using two methods.
Web Console (immediate access)
Click the Console button in the instance's row in the instance list, or click the Console button at the top of the Instance detail page. You can connect directly from the browser without any additional setup.
SSH (requires Floating IP)
To connect via SSH from outside, you must first assign a Floating IP.
- Allocate a public IP from Floating IPs.
- On the Floating IPs tab of the instance detail page, click Associate Floating IP to associate it.
- Connect using the following command.
ssh -i <keypair-file.pem> <username>@<Floating IP>Default username by OS
Ubuntu uses ubuntu; CentOS/Rocky uses centos or rocky.
Delete the Instance
If you no longer need the instance, you can delete it.
Open the action menu of the Instance to delete in the Instance list and select Delete to open a confirmation dialog. Check the target Instance in the dialog, then click Delete again to finish. (You can also delete it with the Delete button at the top of the detail page.) Back up any data you need as a Snapshot or Volume before deleting.
For pre-deletion checks, see Delete an Instance.
