Configure a Limit Range
Set default CPU and memory requests/limits, as well as minimum and maximum values, for containers and Pods within a namespace.
Prerequisites
- Cluster administrator or namespace management permissions are required.
- The target namespace must exist.
INFO
Limit Ranges only apply to newly created containers. Existing Pods are not affected.
Step 1. Open the Create Limit Range form
Select Policy → Limit ranges from the left sidebar. Click the Create limit range button in the top right.
Step 2. Enter basic information
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Limit Range name | container-limits |
| Namespace | Target namespace | default |
Step 3. Configure Container limits
Select the Container tab and enter the default values and ranges.
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Default Request CPU | Auto-applied CPU request on Pod creation | 100m |
| Default Limit CPU | Auto-applied CPU limit on Pod creation | 500m |
| Min CPU | Minimum allowed CPU request | 50m |
| Max CPU | Maximum allowed CPU limit | 2 |
| Default Request Memory | Auto-applied memory request | 128Mi |
| Default Limit Memory | Auto-applied memory limit | 512Mi |
| Min Memory | Minimum allowed memory | 64Mi |
| Max Memory | Maximum allowed memory | 1Gi |
TIP
Setting Default Request and Default Limit automatically applies those values to containers that do not specify resource requirements. Especially useful when combined with a Resource Quota.
Step 4. Confirm creation
Click Create. Verify the created entry in the Limit ranges list.
New containers created in this namespace will automatically receive the default values.
