Create a Persistent Volume
Create a Persistent Volume (PV) to pre-provision storage as a cluster administrator.
Prerequisites
- Cluster administrator permissions are required.
- The underlying storage infrastructure (NFS, iSCSI, etc.) must be ready.
INFO
With dynamic provisioning via a Storage Class, you don't need to create PVs manually. Configure Storage Class →
Step 1. Open the Create PV form
Select Storage → Persistent volumes from the left sidebar. Click the Create persistent volume button in the top right.
Step 2. Enter PV settings
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | PV name | data-pv-01 |
| Capacity | Storage capacity | 10Gi |
| Access Mode | Access method | ReadWriteOnce |
| Reclaim Policy | PV behavior after PVC release | Retain |
| Storage Class | Associated Storage Class name | standard |
Access Mode Guide
| Access Mode | Description | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
ReadWriteOnce (RWO) | Read/write from a single node | General Pod data volumes |
ReadOnlyMany (ROX) | Read-only from multiple nodes | Static file sharing |
ReadWriteMany (RWX) | Read/write from multiple nodes | Shared filesystem (NFS) |
Reclaim Policy Guide
| Policy | Description |
|---|---|
Retain | Keep PV data after PVC deletion (manual cleanup required) |
Delete | Automatically delete PV and storage on PVC deletion |
Recycle | Delete PV contents only, then make PV available again |
Step 3. Configure the Volume Source
Select the Volume Type and enter the corresponding storage settings.
NFS example:
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Server | NFS server IP | 192.168.1.100 |
| Path | NFS share path | /exports/data |
Step 4. Confirm creation
Click Create. In the Persistent volumes list, a Status of Available means the PV is waiting for a PVC binding.
